Eric Spengler

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Attorney | Spengler & Agans, PLLC
Eric has been a resident of Charlotte since 2013, and now lives in a bungalow in the Villa Heights neighborhood, up the hill from the railyard that would be the future site of Queen’s Park. Workers in the railyard first lived in the house when it was built in 1910.
Eric has been involved with land development issues in Charlotte. He was named Sustain Charlotte’s volunteer of the year in 2016 for his service on a city council-appointed task force for the stormwater ordinance. He also served as a supervisor on the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District from 2016 to 2019. Eric received a Master’s in Public Affairs and law degree from Indiana University.

Mary Mac Stallings

Mary Mac brings The Agency over 10 years experience in sales and marketing. She is extremely creative and assists The Agency in ad campaign brainstorming and developing well thought out, creative, ROI driven campaign proposals. With a double major in Sociology and Communication, with a focus in Public Relations, and a minor in Psychology; she gives thought to the underlying reasons and stimuli that cause a message and campaign to be successful. In her free time, Mac likes to play soccer, read sociology books, and go to Charleston whenever possible.

Rugel Chiriboga

Rugel F. Chiriboga leads an international team of architects, designers, and multi-disciplinary partners in creating remarkable environments across the globe. Specializing in urban, commercial architecture, and infrastructural projects, Rugel is passionate about creating architecture that inspires and urban environments that allow for our global communities to thrive. As the Mixed Use practice leader with ODELL, Rugel brings leadership experience in design, and management of architectural design processes and development including Public Private Partnerships. He works closely with clients in both the public and private sector towards realizing unique and creative design solutions that enrich the user experience.

David Amalong, PLA, LEED AP

Director
Principal | Stewart 
David is a Landscape Architect and Urban Designer and a leader of Stewart’s Landscape Architecture practice. With more than 30 years of experience that includes a broad range of domestic and international work, his work exhibits a rigor and discipline that blends craft, ecology, culture and human behavior. Moving easily between masterplanning and detailed design David leverages his knowledge of the craft of many disciplines to create spaces and places that serve more than mere purpose or beauty. His approach to design is based on values that blend equity and ecological intelligence with craftsmanship, quality, rigor, and discipline. By synthesizing the experiential, physical, and contextual elements of place-making, he has created memorable places for communities across the globe. 

His urban park and mixed-use neighborhoods include Domain Northside in Austin, Texas, the Stapleton redevelopment and Central Park located in Denver, Colorado and the 20-year vision for Chouteau Lake and Greenway in St. Louis, Missouri. 

The recipient of numerous international, national, and regional awards, he earned a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from Pennsylvania State University and resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tony Kuhn

director / chair of the Urban Design Committee
PRESIDENT & FOUNDER | Flywheel group 
Since launching in 2013, Tony’s vision for uncovering development opportunities and passion for building relationships at county, city and grass roots levels drives Flywheel Group’s growth and momentum. His philosophy on investment and real estate development draws equally on his economics and architectural backgrounds. Tony graduated with honors in Economics from Vanderbilt University. He then went on to receive his Master’s in Architecture from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte.

Previously, Tony focused on long-range planning for urban redevelopment initiatives, especially focused on North End and NoDa. He worked with the city of Charlotte to create the vision for the “Applied Innovation Corridor,” including plans for transforming the former Charlotte Area Missile Plant into a 100-acre transit-oriented, mixed-use development, he coined “NewCamp Station” (now “Camp North End”). He also worked on the design and construction for the successful re-brand of Charlotte’s Epicentre, a $135MM, 350,000 sf mixed-use entertainment complex.

Tony is a LEED AP with a passion for sustainable design and urban redevelopment. He brings his extensive design and architectural training to all of Flywheel Group’s development initiatives.

Craig Lewis, FAICP, LEED AP, CNU-A

Craig Lewis, FAICP, LEED AP, CNU-A

PRINCIPAL, PLANNER
is a 30+ year resident of the Charlotte region and is a Principal and North American co-leader of Stantec’s Urban Places Planning and Urban Design practice. His international, award-winning practice includes growth and regeneration plans for small towns, large cities, transit agencies, mixed-use developers, housing authorities, hospitals, urban parks, and universities spans the range of city building to include planning, urban design, placemaking, active transportation, form-based codes, and smart mobility, producing][has produced billions of dollars in vibrant, urban investment across North America. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, is a Fellow with the American Institute of Certified Planners (FAICP), a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional, and is an accredited member of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU-A). He received the 2013 Community Sustainability Award from Sustain Charlotte and is a signatory on the Charter of the New Urbanism. He is the past Chair of the Rethinking Southern Cities ULI Regional Initiative Council and is a Board member for ULI-Charlotte.

He recently completed urban design plans for Buckhead, in Atlanta, GA around the planned Park over 400, a “cap park” over the GA 400 highway and City Center Birmingham, AL around three urban parks – Kelly Ingram Park (home of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute), Linn Park (in their Civic Center), and Railroad Park (a former railroad switching yard-turned urban park). He also led the 2018 Vision Plan for Charlotte’s South End that has facilitated a dramatic urbanization that is more transit-supportive, pedestrian-friendly, and economically sustainable.
